Some of my family are Russian but because we barely visit them I never picked it up, just thought it would be interesting to learn as it may come in handy also,

English, Bad English, Brooklyneese, Californian "fuck you" dialect, and West Coast Mentality.

Seriousness: English and German (ein bisschen). I want to learn Russian.

    Edit:
I live in a large Russian minority area, I also have a lot of friends who speak it. I'm of Serbian descent, and it's the closest Slavic language I can find with large usage. I just love the sound of it too, I already know a few words.

Do I need to know it? Hell no. Do you need to know Spanish, French, etc? Nope. If you live in the Anglo-sphere, you need not to know shit other than English. However, we all want to know these things just to know them.

  7. I work for a pharmaceutical company, we deal with the Chinese and French from time to time, knowing it helps me when the company decides to lay off people, decreases my chances of being laid off.

Ye, but it's such bullshit if you ask me. Every English province has to conform to Quebec by having both English and French on everything, but if you go to Quebec they only have French (unless you're right on the border between Ontario-Quebec).

English and enough French to get by if I was on holiday. I'm not really fluent in French because I just can't tune myself to take it all in. Been taking French for about 5 years and I don't think it's been worth it. 5 years of learning a language should get you fluent with it, right?

Speaking of which, how long does it take people to become fluent with another language, on average?

There are so many circumstances that come into play. I knew this Russian girl who learned English in six months, was impressive as fuck, she was pretty good at it, too.

  12. The only language British schools teach properly is English.

Most people speak English around the world anyways or can at least understand English, I just sort of enjoy learning languages.
