Right so i'm currently running a hl2rp server but where i find myself in is; I have a massive lack of players/staff/people in general.
I want to ask if anyone could suggest me some place on these forums or elsewhere where to go to find those people.

Sorry if i'm posting in the wrong subforum but i don't want to make a community thread just yet as when i do do it i want to do it properly, which will be time consuming to say the least.

as of right now it's not your fault probably unless you've done some pretty bad things, there's two big communities right now sucking up all the players for North America while Europeans head to Nebulous. i'd say stick it out but you should start servers with friends normally, people won't be interested in a server if it has 1-2 players on. 5 will be enough for me personally to hop on.

Alright but my basic problem is that i don't have any friends that actively do serious RP, which is why i'm asking here.

  4. go on a server and spend lots of time on there

meet people and become rp buddies

    then maybe try

otherwise idk what to tell you, dont go on a server with the intent of meeting people to be staff because then people are just gonna tell you to fuck off

I recommend that you don't try maintaining a public RP server right now.
Like puppy said, the 'greats' are hoarding as many players as they can.
Host a private RP server with a custom scenario, or try to keep it public.

  6. funny how one of the greats is literally 13 and im not talking about nebulous

    just fucking shoot em rn

  10. Hire Bob Good to fill up your server slots.

seriously though, sniff out small servers, get to know the server and their owners, than store the players contact until you have around 10-20, in the meanwhile get to know the people, root out who's good at roleplay and deserves flags and the opportunity to help your server grow, and invite the others, nothing special.

On a side note, Always take owning a server seriously if you want players. View it as a community service job, serve the players first, acquire money second.

What I always have done is network. My server maintains only 6-12 average, but I talk to the Owner of TEN here incase he ever needs help. I keep my network open for all varieties, friends with old small server owners who just couldn't handle the small pb and then sent them over to me, as well as themselves.

In Epsilon 1.0 I was able to keep it at 30 players around, until I got hit by a car and let a few badmins run it. [Well I didn't have a choice.]

    So really, networking.
If you wanna go the corrupt route.. Which is typically shutting down other people's servers by stealing people from them. Then yeah that's usually the quickest way. But you also have a lack of loyal playerbases who can also be stolen from you easily. So really. It depends on what you want. Growth and quality? or immediate and quantity?

Another tip is to make friends on C16. While not all of them rp anymore, they have an influence in their own ways. Friends have friends. Say you make buds with a c16 person, the website known for hl2rp, they like your server ideas, so they say "yo friends, come check out my friend's shitty server" and then they go.

*Shrug.* It takes a lot more effort than it's worth. Some of the golden servers just got lucky. For example the three top runners atm. SCG gives out incentives pretty openly, but with those small incentives you get used to it. So you want more and more, but he charges you for them.

Why does age matter? We're all behind a computer screen, so everyone is assumed around the same age mostly.

  13. because he acts like a 13 year old. don't get me wrong if youre like 12 or w/e and act mature then it's cool man dw man we chill.

but he literally acts like a immature cunt and cant manage his server but when you call him out for it he acts all nice and cozy to try and buy you over

The problem with HL2RP has already been mentioned, mainstream servers do indeed suck up mainstream players and more niche HL2RP communities get rooted out.
Although, my opinion, and it's shared with quite a lot of people, I'd say, atleast fifty others in the SERIOUS rp community, would without a doubt check your server out for no reason if it wasn't HL2RP.
I know it sounds a little weird, but there's a lot of us nowadays hunting for servers on different schemas (fallout, custom, etc- as long as it's not some city RP- stalker doesn't count usually) and will probably give it a shot if it randomly came up.
The reason why this is so is because most of these kinds of servers (fallout exempted) are usually done on private communities and close down very quickly when people lose interest- so they've got nowhere to go.

and no, this isn't me trying to just convince someone to making a server i'd like to see lol, it's just that i've got a LOT of friends who're doing the exact same thing as I, and i've met a lot of strangers i've never seen before doing the same.
