HL2RP Why do HL2RP servers Fail?

Man your hours don't count, each time I saw you on you were idling on a server for about 19 hours or more! :p

In all seriousness though, it requires initiative on the players part, admins can't spoonfeed you rp 24/7.

a broad question, but servers usually die from two root causes.
    Lack of community involvement,
    Lack of server content.
let me explain what I mean in server content.
If your server's completely run by passive civilian RP- no matter how many friends you bring in, it'll die. very fast.
The key to keeping a community alive is by engaging socially with your community outside of the server. Servers with teamspeak, with players frequently coming on to chat with the staff team, strengthing that 'bond' between player and staff, does indeed make a difference.
There's also just lack of content. This is the more important factor. People don't want to stand around in a plaza and talk to eachother. It's boring as fuck, really doesn't make any story at all, and I could do that in real life if I wanted to- anyone could. If you don't keep your server interesting, via story, events, (EVENTS THAT EVERYONE CAN ENGAGE THEMSELVES IN, NOT JUST RANDOM SHIT WHERE COPS COME IN AND KILL STUFF IN THE STREETS AND FORCE EVERYONE TO SIT IN A SMALLER ROOM AND TALK TO EACHOTHER,) and keep those two factors consistent, you will be able to keep your playerbase hooked. It's very simple. it's why most episodic RPs tend to do very well, until things start slowing down... and more long durations of pointless passive begins. Prime example was UST from canoness. Despite the drama, it was very lively, and only died when things started to slow down.
once a server grows large enough, e.g., lemonpunch, to the point where players themselves can create server content that everyone can involve with, then there's really nothing you as an owner have to do. other than that, you and your staff team should be quite busy.

I think the key is is that with Episodic servers you should only have them on for events and leave the server on for the rest of the weekend for those who want to do passive like Security Detail did, servers just turn ass when you play them all the time because they're mostly predictable/the same.

shitty admins that do nothing but bring the community down and dont try to facilitate roleplay in anyway
no progression at all in the story or the roleplay
nothing to do other than "passive rp bro"
    shit owner
huge amounts of content that is not needed

Cause of minges and connection issues that won't let people connect cause of GMOD. CS:GO doesn't have timeout issues.

  8. In order of importance:
    • Financial Reasons
    • Drama (As a whole)
    • Elitist Attitudes
    • Lack of Action
I don't remember exactly when I bought Garry's Mod, it was back in 2010. I was ten or eleven years old at the time, I can effectively say I've grown up roleplaying and experiencing Garry's Mod on frequencies of on-and-off. So, this is where I'm coming from.
From the very beginning Garry's Mod Roleplay, or their "Serious" roleplay community has been plagued with an elitism problem. It's always been narcissistic, it's always been demanding. It's always wanted something, and expected nothing in return. And it's never invited new ideas. How do I know this? I've been the elitist, and I've been the 'on the outside' person. I can't really name the first community I was on, it was a stage of development where memories aren't known for being recorded very well. So rather than citing my anecdotal evidence, I'll give you a copy of an old thread from Facepunch:
    https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=876675

This is what someone has legitimately said to someone who has no clue, no concept, no idea of what roleplaying is. Rather than trying to actually explain what they did wrong, how to correct this mistake and how to avoid such behavior in the future, they deride them, they ridicule and call them an idiot.
Now don't get me wrong. Not everyone's like this. Not every server is like this. Sometimes we actually do make an effort to teach people the mythical ideas of writing. But okay, this is just one quote. One person on the same thread said this.

About all I wanted to say.

  9. because dave wanted money and everyone wanted super cool terminator weapons/armor for HL2, blame $ and before c74 tnb, everyone just wanted to be cyborgs for the sake of scripts

  10. Actually he never used the TRP items or models in the HL2RP servers.

  11. atleast have peace in mind knowing that dave regrets those days

  12. lmao I was in one of the groups that had a TRP-esque weapon and a military PMC model from trp, he did.

dave did most of it to keep tnb alive, it was edgy and stupid, but he's a cool dude, and yeah, he's much better now.

  13. Was it in the City 8 days? Cause that makes the most sense seeing how that fit the style. Just because it has a techno style doesn't make it "Edgy" but its 2016 so anything that isn't memey is edgy

  14. nah city 8 was best story arc, but it was actual ports from TRP

  15. city 8 is a cool map
    for cool dudes
    with good taste

but i cant enjoy it anymore due to bad server experience on that map. same can be said about city 45 or i17. call me a stupid cunt all you want but i swear its a thing

also i kind of miss kemerd
nothing's better then waking up and seeing "NOVABOX.ORG HL2RP BETA ROLEPLAY JOIN!"
