So, I have decided that i needed to get back into mapping, this time with fresh new stuff and knowledge.
So i have decided that instead of following "City #" that i would just throw together a map that has the same combine stuff and etc, but except a custom feel.

So here's what i did today, this is LITERALLY 2-3 hours In, remember i am just getting back into it, so there was tons of errors and crap, so this is all i have.

I need feedback on what you want to see, feel, atmospheric feel, etc..

I will update / bump this thread when new updates are added.

  2. I suggest you design your map based on a location never seen in a Half-Life 2 Roleplay map; something that isn't just Eastern Europe as most maps of that genre are. And when you do that, base your map in the architecture and enviroment that truly makes the map relatable to that setting.

I hope you're good at interiors.
I once tried to make a map, got the outdoors sorted, then as soon as it came to the apartments, no.

I'm making the train terminal right now, the train cart doors are closed, so i have to make it custom.

I feel if i try REALLY hard, i could do the apartmetns or something.

Well, if that's the case, I hope that your map turns out well. Be sure to update the thread, I wouldn't mind seeing the progress.

I am going to try and make this train cart look better... This is so hideous.

I know i can do better than this, because i have before. I am just in that starting faze where it's like "Just get it done" lol

  7. Could you not use that train cart from the beginning of Half-Life 2? Unless you prefer to do it on your own.

It has the doors on it, those doors do not open.

Make them a "func_door", because they are made from brushes IRC

I need to figure out a map name..

  11. Leave that to the end if you're not decisive about it yet; it's more important to get the rest done beforehand.

    Update: Day 3!
I have scrapped the train car idea and moved to a pure city spawn, here it is.

Remember to nodraw faces that wont be seen, Helps optimization in the long run. And allways when you make a new brush, make it in nodraw, and texure the faces that will only be seen

  14. My advice when creating a map from scratch is to draw out the entire floorplan with whatever you can. In order, you should be working on:
    - Roads / Sidewalk
    - Basic Squares instead of Buildings (As placeholders, etc.)
    - Work on exterior building detail.
    - Finish exterior everthing- you can work on it more later.
    - Begin most important buildings first.

    Just some advice.
