  1. Daohlocks

Daohlocks The Bible is my favorite sci-fi novel.

Played my first real match today on a 4v4 arena against some guys who were from the army.
Needless to say, I got fucking wrecked.
I don't have any weapons or fancy gear to showcase, so could any of ye good ol' veterans share a few tips with a newbie?

Start with the basics, Facegear, Gloves, Common and easy to use AEG. DO NOT get a gas gun, or a sniper or anything interesting until later. Of course this is all after you have played and decided you enjoy the sport. I Ruined an SRC XM8 as my first rifle, and regret not getting a basic M4 platform to start with. I also started with a cheap and shitty gas blowback Berreta PX4, it is now broken and shitty. Go for Quality, even if it means spending a bit more; it will mean you don't need to fully replace it down the line.

If I can give any real tips beyond that these would be them.

Know where you are playing, and pick weapons of which will not hinder your ability to compete. (IE. Don't get a 40" bolt action to play in hallways with.)
Plan out how you want to play, prior to buying your kit. (If you wanna go fast, you don't want a giant plate carrier.)
Flashlights: You never need them, till you need them.
Please for the love of god, get out of the doorway.
Oh and link up with guys who play at your local locations often, let them impart their experience on you.

    Hope that helps some. :)

EDIT: Also, Ball caps ARE COOL and you don't need to fall into the peer pressure of helmets.

  3. You look badass dude, also those guns are insane! really impressed! wouldn't want to bump into you in a game xD

Also about the helmets, yes baseball caps are cool and i've tried many forms of face protection but I think the fast helmet setup is the most comfortable and versatile you can get imo because you can modify it so much to make it suit yourself. But everyone is different but I wouldn't go back to full face masks or mesh stuff after using my current setup.

Yea, for supporting facemasks I can understand the helm. I make my own lower facemasks, (Coming into production for sale soon) I am wearing it in that photo, Under the face sleeve. Super thin, but way more protective than it needs to be, actually safer than the steel ones.

When I first started playing I was definitely spooked by the pain even wearing a coat and vest. Now due to getting heat sick (I live in a desert) I end up in a tee shirt and pants, and I play very aggressively so I get shot up close a lot. My personal favorite was inside of the thumb while turning a corner, shooter was no farther than 3 feet away; felt really fucking great I assure you.
(And I am an idiot who owns nice gloves, but only wears them first match and every match after I forget them.)

  13. Last time I went airsofting, someone rushed me and we both shot each other from like 2 feet away and he got me in the index finger joint, hurt for a week and was swollen. It had to hit me in the one part of my glove that isn't armoured.. but it's all good, airsofting only gives you pain temporarily.

Ok, so I am going to give you a full run down of projectiles and propellants, I know you wanted a simple answer, but I am incapable of that. Anyway, You have 2 Catagories with a total of 4 types of "Guns" each with it's own system of propelling the "BB" which is your projectile. Here is your Breakdown:

Self Contained Systems (Uses a piston to draw and release air to propel a BB)

    Springers:
A "Gun" that has a spring guided piston of which draws air in order to propel the BB, these are most commonly in the form of a bolt action sniper rifle or a pump shotgun, these are limited to 1 shot per priming of the action (Running the Bolt/Slide) These tend to be your cheapo toy guns and rarely are seen at what I would consider a competent level outside of specialised marksmen rifles.

AEGs (Automatic Electronic Guns): These work similarly to your springer haveing a spring that actuates a piston that releases your air, though an AEG uses a gearbox to automate this process and is capable of semi-automatic, and automatic fire. These are the standard for most players as they are easy to use, and require only a mild amount of maintenance.

Pressure Reservoir Systems (A reservoir that contains a pressured gas that releases small amounts to propel a BB)

    Green Gas/Propane:
My personal favorite, this systems has magazines that contain not only BBs but also a gas under pressure that when released propel your BB. These are commonly used for movie props as they function very similarly to the real steel versions. On the reverse these do tend to wear and tear faster and require far more attention to detail and maintenance.

HPA (High-Pressure Air): This system works near identically to a paintball marker, running a hose to a tank filled with air kept at high pressure this system releases a small amount of that air to propel your BB. These systems can use magazines from AEGs as they do not require any gas to be held in the mag, and are by far the most effective airsoft toy. (Thusly why they are banned from most common fields and or forced to play in HPA only games.)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Zer0, You are boring, I did not want to read your wall of text"

TL;DR: You buy your gas/Air/BBs prior to going to any playing zone, some places force you to use their BBs, and you are lucky I did not get started on BB weight and why it does really matter a lot.

Hope that helps anyone who was wondering.
